New products : AK Pow Carver Reaches Out to Lift-Accessed Backcountry Skiers

At 95mm underfoot, H2oG’s ‘skinny’ ski is versatile carving-powder hybrid

Valdez, AK -- Following in the successful first tracks of his debut line of skis, Dean Cummings adds to his line of Alaska-inspired ski gear with a ski aimed purposefully at the resort skier who ventures into the backcountry.

The AK Pow Carver™ is a carving, powder shaped ski that is as at home on groomers as it is off piste. According to Cummings, the AK Pow Carver is “the ultimate carving ski with just enough width and rocker to be an off-piste shred tool.”

The AK Pow Carver benefits from Cummings’ proprietary Lay Down Technology that makes the ski as versatile in powder as it is on the carving fields of the East Coast. The recipe for Lay Down Technology success is traditional camber and sidecut underfoot that transitions to reverse camber in the tip and medium profile tail. Cummings explained that Lay Down Technology also keeps the skis damp enough to perform well at high speeds, blast through chop and crud and greatly reduce chatter and other vibrational effects that are inherent in many rocker skis.

All H2oG skis are made in the USA that helps ensure high quality attention to details such as nylon blended top sheet and full linear wood core with edges that wrap 360 degrees around the ski plus deep heat-infused rounded tapered sidewalls for enhanced edge protection. At 95mm under foot, the AK Pow Carver is veritable skinny ski in the H20 Outdoor Gear line. Cummings said he is optimistic the AK Pow Carver will earn the same kind of accolades from ski industry testers as his previous releases. The Karen’cito (133) won Skiing’s Indie Skis Official Selection, the Kodiak (120) turned editors’ heads at Backcountry magazine, and the Tazlina (108) earned editor’s pick at Freeskier.

The AK Pow Carver offers the same versatility and quality of construction in a narrower profile. Available in two lengths, 164 cm and 181 cm, dimensions for both are 135-95-121 with a radius of 18M. And both cost $899, the same price as all the other skis in the H2oG line.
