Technologies, the leading provider of customized, concealed sports
protection, is unveiling its latest innovation in head protection for
baseball – the Unequal UNCAP™ – to MLB® players
and equipment managers at spring training. The UNCAP, which is
lightweight, aerodynamic protection designed for catchers and base
coaches, fits comfortably inside the official cap of MLB made by New Era®
and offers comparable protection to big, heavy skull caps at about half
the weight.
The UNCAP uses Unequal's patented composite fortified with
military-grade Kevlar® and distinctive green Accelleron™ to absorb and disperse impact energy away from the head. Unequal protected David Ross, Boston Red Sox catcher, in the 2013 World Series.

the first time in 30 years, the UNCAP enables catchers and base coaches
to wear team caps again. We know the importance of the 'mirror test,'
so we designed the UNCAP to be virtually undetected by spectators," said

that every ounce counts, so the UNCAP, at about six ounces, provides
comparable protection to the catcher's traditional, heavy skull cap at

without compromising safety."
A
third-party ISO17025-accredited lab tested the UNCAP and determined
that it improves Severity Index (SI) and Acceleration (g's) readings in
key protective areas versus skull cap helmets. NOCSAE's Severity Index
(SI) and Acceleration are used to measure hazard, or risk of injury. All
of the UNCAP test results were below the 1200 SI safety limit as
compared to some results for the heavier skull cap that exceeded 1200
SI, which could contribute to the high number of concussions suffered by
catchers.
The UNCAP provides unprecedented lightweight protection using patented Acceleration Reduction Technology (ART™). In 2013, the Biomedical Engineering Society published a peer-reviewed research report from Virginia Tech
and sponsored by the National Institutes of Health that concluded
lowering head acceleration predicts a lower incidence of concussion.

Remember,
head and body protection are the second line of defense. Being careful
and responsible is the first priority. Helmet and body pads do have
limitations. No helmet pad can prevent or eliminate the risk of
concussions or other serious head injuries while playing sports.
Scientists have also not reached agreement on how the results of
impact-absorption tests relate to concussions. No conclusions about a
reduction of risk or severity of concussive injury should be drawn from
